ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (READING & WRITING):
The Washougal School District uses a curriculum called CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts). There are eight main units of study in the 4th Grade:
Unit 1 - Personal Narratives - Childhood Memories
Unit 2 - The Middle Ages
Unit 3 - Poetry
Unit 4 - Islamic Empires in the Middle Ages
Unit 5 - Eureka! (A Quest involving inventors)
Unit 6 - Geology
Unit 7 - The American Revolution
Unit 8 - Treasure Island
MATH:
The Washougal School District uses a curriculum called Origo - Stepping Stones. In 4th Grade, there will be six main units of study:
Unit 1 - Place Value, Number Sense, Rounding, Estimation
Unit 2 - Addition and Subtraction
Unit 3 - Multiplication and Division strategies using place value understanding
Unit 4 - Fractions
Unit 5 - Measurement & Data
Unit 6 - Geometry
SCIENCE:
The Washougal School District uses a curriculum called Mystery Science, as well as doing fun mini-lessons with Mystery Doug every week. In the world of 4th Grade science, we will explore four main units:
Unit 1 - The Human Machine: Human Body, Vision, and the Brain
Unit 2 - The Birth of Rocks: Earth's Features and Processes
Unit 3 - Waves of Sound: Sound, Waves, and Communication
Unit 4 - Energizing Everything: Energy, Energy Transfer, and Electricity
This year, we will hope to take a field trip to Clark Public Utilities to learn more about energy and electricity.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will be focusing on Washington State History, including learning about the first Native American tribes in our state and region, the Oregon Trail and Westward Movement. In the Spring, we will hope to take a field trip to Fort Vancouver National Historic site to experience a Walk thru History.
